Nothing Worse. . .
. . .than one of those blog posts where the author says, "Well, I don't have anything to say but I just wanted to say that I haven't posted for a while but here's a general update."
So I finished up my second year in The Kingdom, and signed a contract for a third (and probably final, though a lot of guys say that) year.
I got a raise of about $150 a month, which brings my salary up to the nice round number of A GAZILLION dollars a month.
The plane ride was the usual excruciating nerve-torture. The four films that I watched on the plane were THE ADJUSTMENT BUREAU (about how one must defy the forces of the universe in quest of true love) THE TOURIST (which seems to be, vaguely about how love is more important than money, but was mainly just a travelogue) LITTLE FOKKER (which was about how love and family is more important than boning Jessica Alba) and EAT PRAY LOVE (which was about how it's okay for spoiled white women to leave their families to go to exotic destinations for sex tourism.)
America. . . the fat, the baseball hats, the ethnic variety. . . it never feels like coming home, particularly, it's just another place to visit.
Anyway, I've got a list of activities to keep myself occupied and hopefully make myself feel more mature and adult, mostly related to improving my knowledge of practical things and surviving emergencies and disasters.
I spent most of yesterday trying to light fires with batteries, aluminum cans, and the bottom of broken bottles, and I'm also taking some handgun training classes at a local range.
While I've probably fucked more and hotter chicks than any of the instructors at the range, it was hard to feel superior to them. Aiming at the center of the chest used to mean something completely different to me. . .

Ah, you must of been flying DELTA. I saw the same 4 crap films on my flight from Budapest to New York.
I just came home for a visit for the first time in a year and a half. I'm from the midwest and its hasn't changed much. It kind of does feel like another place to visit. Sad.
After a year in Hungary, I'm off to teach in Southern Russia for the fist time.
We'll see how my own "vodkaberg" turns out. Or turns me out...
Always enjoy your post,
~D
At least you didn't write, "I'm sorry I haven't written in awhile, I've been SO busy ..." I don't understand why bloggers do that, like they're writing to their grandmas or something.
Also, I am against guns, but glad you're enjoying your holiday the American way.
My instructor, a 20 year marine veteran and 10 year police veteran, would probably say something like, "I'm against guns, too, especially people shooting them at me when I don't have one to shoot back."
@English Teacher X: Your instructor sounds like a true patriot; god bless America. And firearms. And the people who shoot them.
god damn, eve, just shut the fuck up for once.
are you a narcissist, or what?
No one cares about your frumpy feminist liberal opinions on anything. Write about this on your own blog if you feel the need to constantly approve or disapprove of ETX's perspectives. That would be the logical choice, no?
Or perhaps it is just our supreme privilege to be subjected to the under-informed inexperienced verbal diarrhea, veiled in the form of 'opinion', that brain has such an endless supply of.
Even when ETX puts you in your place, you have to have the last word with a less than clever patronizing response. It never fucking ends.
This is his blog. We care about his opinions. No one cares about yours, least of all ETX. What a fucking idiot you are.
Go cook a fucking pie or suck some dick. That would be a much better use of your time and space that your body takes up on this earth and might justify the oxygen that you use. Or, maybe, write an article if those other options aren't palatable to you. Any of the three are a better choice than commenting here - given that your perspectives on "what-is-right" are antithetical to almost every theme in this blog.
Or go tell some Koreans how to live their lives in a patronizing or sarcastic way. Subject them to a heavy dose of the-world-according-to-eve. I'm sure they will appreciate what you have to say, no?
