Yeah, it's very cheap to live here, not least because there's not much to spend your money on. Having said that, a lot of guys waste all their money on weekly trips out of Saudi trying to find something to do.
And remember, most jobs in Saudi want you to have 2 - 5 years of experience teaching somewhere, plus qualifications. You can't come with no experience or qualifications and make the big bucks.
Most of the new teachers I train say they're doing it to go to Saudi. They're confised about what that means, but its still a clear reversal from the "I just want to travel" days.
I'd imagine the lure of Dubai for the booze and women sets in, especially for the single western male?
But yes, I reckon you could save more than in say, Oman. I heard Saudi Arabia was cheaper for groceries too, but just very very boring. I also do not like the idea of having to give up my passport, and just no cold beer anywhere, but each to their own!
Good luck and love the cartoons/musings, email me @ mills.a@yandex.com if you got time. Would like to discuss the skinny re: Saudi....
If your new to ESL, there are probably worse places to learn the early soul-saving lesson that you 'never go anywhere for a whole year just for the money' than in Suadi. Godspeed.
Remember, ETX spent about a decade massively blunting his dopamine response with alcoholism and Russian sluts before he came to the sandbox. As a new guy, you don't have that advantage.

Like to know your thoughts on this as well. You're the only one who keeps it real. That's why I enjoy your site.
