Merry Fuckin' Christmas: A Gift And An Invitation

Here's a little Christmas prezzie for you:

This coupon code will enable you to buy VODKABERG on Smashwords for $1.00 (75 percent off)until January 31st --

when you check out, enter this code: TL63Q

Save yourself the other $2.99 and put it in your 401 (k) or invest in canned goods and shotguns.

You're welcome!

Now i should say that the Smashwords version lacks some of the graphics that the Amazon version has, but Amazon has no way to give coupons (that I'm aware of.)

By the way, I'm experimenting with a new cover for Vodkaberg:

this is the current cover:

This is the new cover -- give me an opinion on it. Trying to do away with those black color frames, but maybe this obscures the picture a bit too much?

As well, I have an invitation:

Would any of you English teachers out there like to be interviewed for a new edition of ENGLISH TEACHER X GUIDE TO TEACHING ENGLISH ABROAD? If you have a story to tell, or perhaps would strongly like to confirm or deny what I say in my books, drop me a line at:

englishteacherx(at)yahoo(dot)com

I'll send you a list of questions. The interviews would be totally anonymous, and you can have final approval of the thing, but of course I won't pay you beyond perhaps free copies of any books that you want.

I used to have interviews on my old website; here's a link to the old interviews on my old website on the wayback machine, circa 2005.

(Man, embarrassing. I'm not sure it was cool to spell words with a "z" instead of "s" even then, but there were no different typefaces available for headings at that time.)

I'm hitting my first ever teaching assignment in 2 months. Maybe when you do a third edition, if you're looking for more then.

Yeah, actually, I'm happy to interview new guys as well, we can discuss your motivations, expectations, and so forth.

Normally I'd say keep the black frames, as font effects to make the text stand out against a busy background are usually about the most low-rent type of design imaginable. HOWEVER, so goes the world of ETX;-) In this case, the font effects actually look like spraypaint against that dilapidated background. So, the lowest form of design is in this case a great design! Viva la bad text effects and viva la ETX publishing empire! No condescension intentended.

Yeah, it's not quite there yet, I agree, but it's getting a bit better... maybe just make the black bands smaller, keep the text effects.

Hey, guy from the last comment here:

If I may, if you keep the black bands, just make them the same size (shorten the bottom to match the top). That will do a lot for symmetry. Other than that, I think that you're good. Both designs pretty much work. I really do think they're both fine. I've designed book covers for myself. It's how I taught myself photoshop. Its a tedious job, the result of which you'll likely never be 100% satisfied with. The most important things that you have to worry about are a. can people quickly read my title? and b. is the book's subject matter somewhat clear at a quick glance? Both of your covers meet those criteria, imo. Everything else isn't truly very relevant.
